The Beginning Of The Beginning

Timeline 1993
July 1993
The results of the Kerala Engineering Entrance Exam had come in July 1993. In those days, since nothing was computerized, results of exams came out late. I came to know that to get admission into any one of the 17 Regional Engineering Colleges then existing, one had to apply separately. A family friend (he is currently the Head of the Department of Geography at Kannur University, an exemplary individual!) went in person to CREC and brought the application form. After all the formalities, I was officially part of the Thirty Third Batch of REC Calicut. I got admission on August 24, 1993.

Timeline 1993
September 22, 1993
The first year classes started on September 22, 1993. The classroom was MB 111. I don't exactly remember who took the first class for us.  The Electrical Engineering people are the people, who always follows Faraday's Laws, Ohm's Law, and Kircchoff's Laws. This date has a historical significance in world cricket history also. On this very day, for only the second time in the history of test cricket, a test match was tied.  I had the great fortune of watching that match on TV, which, in those days, was Black and White ( I was in Standard VI at that time, aged 11).  The classic match took place between India and Australia at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Madras (Now Chennai). I was allotted Room Number 228 of A Hostel.

Dateline 1993
August 24, 1993
It was on a beautiful rainy afternoon, way back in August 1993 that I got admission in one of the most prestigious institutions in India, Calicut Regional Engineering College. A golden era of my life began, on that day (not exactly, as the first year classes started only on September 22).  A serene campus with its breathtaking ambience, located at the foothills of the Western Ghats, about 22 km away from the City of Calicut. If someone is to ask me which place is heaven on earth, then, I would say, it is this campus, and since it is located in God's Own Country, I sincerely believe no one would disagree with this statement!
